Lesson Plans and Course Ideas with Workbook

Lesson Plans
Virtually every subject in the high school setting can be put in the context of the home building process.  There is math in designing, constructing, selling and buying a home.  Scientific principles are critical to the architect, the landscaper and the painter.  History, ecology, communication, graphic design, computer design and basic skills such as problem-solving and critical thinking all have a connection to home building. The activities and exercises in the lesson plans were developed by educators and are provided as idea starters and examples of ways you can introduce home building topics.

Course Ideas
This course gives students a more extensive understanding of the relationship between academics and the world of work as it relates to the residential construction industry. The course is designed to give students a knowledge base about the residential construction industry and an awareness of industry related job and career opportunities. Students are able to connect what they are learning in the classroom to the world of work by aligning academic instruction with real-life industry experiences.  The course includes a hands-on building project. Best of all, it’s not “extra work.”  The format is easily adaptable to fit your current curriculum.  A workbook is included to assist with planning.
